1. Select virtual machines to back up. Click Next to continue.
2. On the storage tab you can specify the following:
a) Backup Proxy: You may choose to use any, or a specific, proxy for your backups.
b) Backup Repository: Select a local Backup Repository.
c) Restore Points to Keep: This number depends on the requirements you must fulfill. For example, if you keep 7 restore points and set a daily schedule for the job you will have 7 days worth of backups in 24h increments.
3. Click on the "Advanced" button to view more settings.
a) Backup tab:
Backup Mode: iland and Veeam recommend "Incremental" mode for the best performance. Choosing reverse incremental may lead to slow merges when performing backup copy jobs to iland.
Please use the following Veeam articles for more information on backup retention policies:
b) Storage tab:
Set Compression Level to Optimal and Storage Optimization to WAN Target. You may enable encryption here if you wish to password protect the backup files on the iland side. This will require the password to be used when restoring these files.
c) Notifications tab:
it's recommended to set notifications for your backup job. This will allow Veeam to alert you if a job finishes with an error and provides details to what caused the error.
There are several options you may change per your local backup policy such as scheduling. You can then complete the rest of the Create Backup Job wizard with default settings.
